Canterbury Bulldogs general manager of football Phil Gould is in hospital in Sydney as he undergoes testing for what has been described as “significant health concerns.”

The 67-year-old league veteran is understood to have admitted himself to hospital on Monday and is now awaiting test results for a suspected heart condition, according to News Corp.

The league legend missed his usual spot on Channel Nine’s 100% Footy earlier this week, with his absence tied to his health scare, keeping him away from the grand final week broadcast.

Even amid the health scare, Gould is said to be in good spirits and has stayed in regular contact with Bulldogs management via email from his hospital bed.

He has also remained consistently active on his social media platforms, including posting a series of political comments on his Twitter page on Wednesday.

Channel 9’s Danny Weidler confirmed he had spoken with Bulldogs general manager, who took to Twitter to reveal the extent of the health issues he is facing.

“Nine league expert and Bulldogs boss Phil Gould has been in hospital since Monday and has some significant health concerns,” Weidler tweeted.

“Big couple of days for Gus. Spoke to him a short time ago and wishing him good health.”

Gould has long been one of rugby league’s most influential figures, playing a key role in Canterbury’s resurgence to the top of the competition since joining the club five seasons ago.

The veteran administrator recently extended his contract with the club through to the end of 2031, alongside head coach Cameron Ciraldo, ensuring continued stability at the club’s helm.
