Former NRL halfback and St George Illawarra Dragons NRLW coach Jamie Soward has secured a new head coaching role, taking the reins of the North Coast Bulldogs for the 2026 season.
Currently the head coach of the Samoa women’s national rugby league team, Soward will now lead the Bulldogs in the Men’s Country Championship.
The 40-year-old has made a successful transition from player to coach following a 12-season professional career.
He spent four seasons leading the St George Illawarra Dragons’ NRLW side, worked as a specialist assistant for the Dragons’ NRL team, and served as an assistant coach for the NSW Sky Blues.

The North Coast Bulldogs announced the appointment on social media this week, describing it as a major boost for the region’s rugby league talent.
“We're excited to announce that Jamie Soward has been appointed as Head Coach of the North Coast Men's Rugby League Country Championship squad!" a statement on social media read.
“With Jamie's extensive playing and coaching career, this is a huge opportunity for local players to learn, develop, and represent our region at the highest standard.
“We are now seeking expressions of interest from players within Group 2 and Group 3 who would like to be part of this squad.”
Soward brings with him a wealth of experience, making more than 200 first-grade appearances for the Dragons, Sydney Roosters, and Penrith Panthers.
A key member of the Dragons’ 2010 premiership-winning side under Wayne Bennett, Soward spent a season in the English Super League with the London Broncos for a year before retiring from playing in 2016.
