A new season, a new team, and some new captains.

The 2023 NRL campaign is underway as the Penrith Panthers push for their third consecutive title.

So, which players have been selected to lead their respective teams this year?

Two teams have opted for a captaincy change this season - the Bulldogs and the Tigers.

Young duo Reed Mahoney and Matt Burton will guide a fresh-faced Canterbury side in 2023 as part of a six-man leadership group.

The Tigers will be led by new recruit Api Koroisau, with the veteran hooker named captain despite his controversial comments made after last year's Grand Final win with the Panthers.

As the league's newest team, the Dolphins have named their inaugural captain, selecting experienced prop and former Storm forward Jesse Bromwich.

Jarrod Croker will be the most experienced captain this season, having held the role at the Raiders since 2015. However, it is unclear whether he will be able to earn a starting position in the centres for Round 1.
