New Penrith Panthers stadium triggers fan eruption - 'Bob the Builder design' image

Penrith Panthers fans

Panthers fans have erupted online after the club unveiled the first renders of their new $300 million stadium, with many mocking the design and branding it a “Bob the Builder” project.

The renders, released across Penrith’s social media channels last week, were meant to build excitement ahead of the team’s long-awaited return home.

Instead, they sparked frustration from supporters already weary after two years of travelling to CommBank Stadium in Parramatta for home games.

The Panthers won’t return to their spiritual home on Mulgoa Road until 2027, when the new venue is finally complete.

‘Stadiums by IKEA’: Fans savage new design

Comments flooded social media within minutes of the release, with supporters ridiculing the simplistic look of the proposed build.

“Stadiums by IKEA,” one fan wrote.

“When you get the new stadium off Temu,” another added.

“Did Bob the Builder design this?” A third joked.

While many panned the design, some fans were simply relieved the rebuild was progressing and that a homecoming was finally in sight.

“Can’t wait to be back home,” one said. “I just want our home ground back.”

Panthers chair defends $300 million project

Despite the online backlash, Panthers Group Chair Peter Graham said the club was proud to deliver a “world-class” facility for future generations.

“The new world-class stadium will be a game-changer for Penrith, which will be enjoyed by Panthers fans for generations to come,” Graham said.

“With demolition works now complete, it won’t be long until our first game back home.”

Hills to remain as part of new layout

The rebuild will feature new eastern and western grandstands with upgraded premium seating, while Penrith’s iconic northern and southern hills will remain intact.

Once completed, the new-look venue is expected to host up to 25,000 fans.
