It’s become an annual source of speculation during the past decade in the NRL.

But Melbourne Storm CEO Justin Rodski has declared the club is hopeful of once again locking down the future of legendary head coach Craig Bellamy—sooner rather than later.

Speaking to the media as the 2026 pre-season gets underway, Rodski explained extension talks with Bellamy have already begun.

“We’re talking to Craig about that at the moment,” he revealed.

“He’s been on holidays up in Coolangatta enjoying some time off, as he should,” Rodski continued.

“When he returns in the next week or so we’ll sit down and hopefully look at extending him for at least another year.”

A one-year extension would see Bellamy take the reins for his 25th season as Melbourne Storm coach in 2027, something Rodski and the entire Storm organisation is very keen to see happen.

“If we could secure that (contract extension until at least 2027) it’s a nice milestone and something that, as one of the greatest coaches of all time, we’d love to talk to him about,” Rodski said.

Bellamy, 66, has family on the Gold Coast and has been sounded out by the Gold Coast Titans in recent months with an eye to potentially taking on a role with the club in 2027 alongside newly-appointed coach Josh Hannay.
