Jason Demetriou has been confirmed as the new head coach of London Broncos, signing a three-year contract that ties him to the capital until the end of 2028. The ex-South Sydney Rabbitohs boss will return to England later this year and says the scale of the challenge on offer has convinced him.
Demetriou, who previously made his name as a player with Wakefield Trinity, will take charge whether London are granted entry into an expanded Super League for 2026 or remain in the Championship.
The club has welcomed the clarity of his commitment as it builds towards a new era under the ownership of Darren Lockyer and Grant Wechsel.

Ambition in the capital
London described the appointment as “a sign of the Broncos’ intent to rekindle enthusiasm across the capital, bring elite rugby league to a wider audience, and establish a team capable of thriving in Super League.”
They also hailed Demetriou’s philosophy of professionalism, resilience and attacking rugby league as a natural fit for their long-term vision.
For the 48-year-old coach himself, the lure was about shaping a side with untapped potential. “London has incredible potential as a rugby league city,” Demetriou said.
“The Club’s ambition and the opportunity to help shape its future at this important stage made this an exciting challenge. I can’t wait to get started.”
