The Broncos have reportedly secured the signature of their most important player with Payne Haas set to ink a mega extension that could make him the first $2 million-a-season star in NRL history.

The Daily Telegraph has reported a deal will be signed to remain in Brisbane before November 1, along with the news Haas’ Sydney-based agent has hired a Brisbane marketing firm to maximise the Bronco prop’s brand power and earnings.

Haas has been the cornerstone of Brisbane’s pack for the past six seasons and will now remain at Red Hill until at least the end of 2028.

Despite being courted heavily by the new rebel R360 rugby union competition, which was prepared to offer him more than $2.2 million per year, Haas has chosen loyalty to the Broncos.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed another dominant campaign, averaging the most offloads in the competition, ranking among the top players in tackle breaks, and routinely being one of the highest work rate front-rowers in the NRL.

The news of Haas’ loyalty to the Broncos comes after months of speculation around his future, with rugby league powerbrokers bracing for a potential code raid before the November 1 deadline.

The R360 competition has a September 30 cut-off to sign marquee names, but Haas’ agent Ahmad Merhi confirmed his client will instead commit to a long-term NRL future.

At just 25, Haas is already a three-time Dally M Prop of the Year, one of the first players picked in representative teams and widely regarded as the premier middle forward in the game.

The news is a massive boost for Brisbane as they prepare for another finals campaign, with Haas locked in as the forward leader of the club’s premiership push, now and for the foreseeable future.
