McGuire had a decorated NRL career which spanned more than 200 games across 13 years at the Broncos, Cowboys and Dragons.
He represented Queensland 14 times in Origin between 2015-19 and also played for Australia eight times through 2016-18.
Since his playing career ended, McGuire was involved in a coaching role at the Broncos which ended earlier this year.
He had since been working in marketing.
It's not the first time McGuire has courted controversy with a stint at Super League club Warrington in 2023 starting with a seven-game ban following his usage of a derogatory slur in a trial match.
