Adam Elliott has been a solid forward for the Knights, but after confirming his departure form Newcastle at the end of the 2025 season, the 30-year-old is pushing to get a new NRL deal done soon.
Speaking on SEN Radio, Elliott said there was no official news to announce yet but confirmed discussions with rival clubs were ongoing and progressing.
The 30-year-old revealed he has been in regular contact with his manager and is hopeful clarity on his future will come soon as negotiations continue behind the scenes, with an aim to have a club confirmed in the new year.
The decision for Newcastle to not offer a new contract to Elliott forms part of Knights coach Justin Holbrook’s broader roster rebuild, with the club reshaping its forward pack and long-term salary cap strategy.

Despite his exit, Elliott has been one of Newcastle’s more consistent performers in recent seasons, providing versatility through the middle and on the edge.

The lock forward has attracted interest from several clubs, with prior reports indicating the Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra Dragons and South Sydney Rabbitohs could all be interested in his services.
There is growing belief the Dragons could be leading the race after missing out on several forward targets over the past 12 months and prioritising experience in their rebuild, with enough space in their forward rotation for Elliott to make an impact.
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan is also well known for valuing a strong veteran presence in his teams, and Elliott may fit the bill, joining a pack with a lot of young promise but lacking some experience.
The former Bulldogs, Raiders and Knights forward debuted in the NRL in 2016 and has amassed 173 first-grade appearances across his career.
Elliott’s next move shapes as a pivotal one for the forward, who is hoping to keep his NRL career going, and with interest from multiple clubs, it is likely we will see him signed sooner rather than later.
