Dally M Medal wrap: James Tedesco and Tamika Upton claim major awards in the NRL and NRLW

James Tedesco has become part of an exclusive club in the NRL by claiming his second Dally M Medal in a landslide victory.

The Sydney Roosters fullback was the heavy favourite leading into the ceremony and eased to the win in the count as he finished with 67 votes.

This blitzed his nearest competition, with Nathan Cleary claiming second spot on 45 votes.

Fellow halfback Isaiya Katoa and Brisbane prop Payne Haas, who each polled 44 votes, rounded out the top three.

"I’ve probably had a lot of critics and doubters the last couple of years so I guess to be back on this stage and winning this medal is a proud achievement for myself," Tedesco said.

"It’s up there for sure. I mean, I really enjoyed this season. The players we had, the players we lost.

"I enjoyed being the leader of this team and running us out each week."

The win continued Teddy's love affair with the award after also claiming the top gong in 2019, while finishing in second spot back in 2022 and last year.

Meanwhile, Tamika Upton also picked up the Dally M Medal for the second time in her career after holding off a challenge from her Brisbane teammate Julia Robinson.

The count came right down to the wire, with the fullback earning three votes during their side's big win over North Queensland in the last round of the regular season to take her tally to 35.

Upton pipped the Broncos' centre by just three votes.

Newcastle playmaker Jesse Southwell rounded out the top three on the podium as the Knights star finished on 31 votes.

Earlier in the night, Ricky Stuart was awarded the Coach of the Year after Canberra’s incredible campaign that saw the Raiders earn the club’s first minor premiership in 35 years.

Young gun Robert Toia was named the Rookie of the Year beating out strong competition in Leka Halasima and Isaiah Iongi.

The Chooks’ centre debuted in Round 1 and went on to become a key component of Trent Robinson’s backline while also forcing his way into the Queensland side.

In the NRLW, John Strange was awarded the Coach of the Year after guiding the Roosters to an unbeaten season.

Brisbane teenager Shalom Sauaso picked up the Rookie of the Year award which saw her impress for the Broncos after only leaving school last year.
