Gold Coast Titans co-owner Bec Frizelle has publicly confronted Corey Parker live on radio after the Brisbane Broncos legend accused the club of blindsiding new head coach Josh Hannay.

Parker had criticised the Titans following reports last month suggesting Hannay’s three-year deal included a clause allowing the club to demote him to assistant coach in 2027 if they could lure Craig Bellamy as head coach.

The Titans later reaffirmed their commitment to Hannay, saying they made “no apologies for pursuing the best” in reference to their interest in Bellamy.

Chairman Dennis Watt also responded at the time, stating the club would not “comment on confidential contractual matters” but insisted much of the reporting had been “inaccurate.”

On SEN Radio on Tuesday, Frizelle took the opportunity to directly address Parker’s comments and the speculation surrounding the club’s coaching situation.

“Corey, I’d like to clear this up now because it did bother me that you would think that we would be dishonest or not transparent with our incoming coach regarding Craig Bellamy and Josh Hannay,” she said.

“I want to say on the record we would never operate that way. We are straight shooters and we will always be transparent. We would never treat anyone poorly like that.

“I hope that clears it up for the public, there was nothing we did that neither Josh or Craig Bellamy were not across.”

Parker replied:

“That’s great Bec, that provides some great clarity for the listeners and for the fans.

“Because for such a period of time there was a bit of uncertainty, not from your end, but I did say from our end that within the four walls you would hope it would be handled differently and you have absolutely cleared that up without a doubt.”

The exchange came after Parker’s earlier comments when the Titans’ reported pursuit of Craig Bellamy first surfaced. At the time, the Broncos great said Hannay appeared to have been “somewhat blindsided” by the situation.

“Hannay whilst holidaying overseas has made it known that he didn’t have any idea that there was a contract with a clause in it,” Parker said.

“At this stage we’re led to believe that Josh Hannay had no idea about the alleged signing of Craig Bellamy, and we haven’t heard anything from the Titans.

“If what we’re reading is correct and Josh comes back — he’s away on holidays — he’s coming back into a storm of media going, ‘What’s going on?’

“I understand if Craig hasn’t made those decisions, but certainly if Josh is aware of it, they need to front the media and just let their fans know where they’re going.”

The Titans’ leadership has since moved to end speculation surrounding Hannay’s contract, reaffirming that both the coach and Bellamy were aware of all discussions and that transparency has been maintained throughout the process.
