Ben Condon’s European adventure is finally back on track. The towering Australian forward has sealed a two-year deal with Catalans Dragons, completing a move that slipped through his grasp 12 months ago.
The 24-year-old, who most recently played for Championship side Widnes Vikings, had previously been linked with a switch to Leigh Leopards, only for the transfer to collapse after a failed medical.
Now, after rediscovering form and fitness in England’s second tier, Condon will head to Perpignan ahead of the 2026 Super League season.
A second chance at top-flight rugby
Condon made his NRL debut for North Queensland Cowboys in 2020 before moving to Manly Sea Eagles three years later. Across his time in Australia, he notched 17 NRL appearances and featured in both the Queensland and New South Wales Cups, building a reputation as a strong-running back-rower.
His mid-season move to Widnes proved to be the reset he needed, scoring five tries in ten games and catching the eye of Catalans’ recruitment team.
“I’m really excited to be joining Catalans and I’m very grateful for the opportunity they have given me for the next two years,” Condon said upon signing.
“I can’t wait to experience both the French culture and the incredible atmosphere at Stade Gilbert Brutus. I’m coming with the ambition to contribute to the team’s success and help push Catalans back into the play-offs, with the ultimate goal of winning a competition.”
Condon becomes the Dragons’ ninth new addition ahead of next season, joining the likes of Toby Sexton, Solomona Faataape and Charlie Staines as part of a sweeping rebuild in the south of France.
