Albert Hopoate has become the latest NRL player to make the switch to England, signing a two-year deal with Warrington Wolves following his departure from the Canberra Raiders.

The 24-year-old speedster joins the Super League club ahead of the 2026 season, fresh off a tough campaign in the NRL where opportunities were limited.

Hopoate, who bagged 13 tries in 42 NRL appearances, was also named the NSW Cup Player of the Year in 2024 after a standout stint with Canberra’s reserves.

“A fresh challenge” for the former Raider

“I feel blessed for the opportunity to join Warrington and it’s a move myself and my family are really excited about,” Hopoate said after the signing was announced. “After a difficult season this year, I’m looking forward now to getting back playing and enjoying my footy. I believe my best years are coming up in front of me now.

“I’m excited to get over, meet my new teammates and the fans, and experience what Super League is all about. It’s a fresh challenge and one I’m ready to embrace.”

Hopoate becomes Warrington’s fourth new recruit for 2026, following the arrivals of Liam Byrne, Toafofoa Sipley and Tevita Pangai Jr. Head coach Sam Burgess described him as “a great signing” who will bring pace, skill and attacking flair to the Wolves’ backline.

“Albert is a great signing for us here at Warrington,” Burgess said. “We’re looking forward to welcoming him into our group and for him to develop his game over here in Super League.”

After completing his medical, Hopoate will join pre-season training next month as he prepares for his first taste of English rugby league.
