Most Super Bowl wins by a coach: Chiefs' Andy Reid joins NFL royalty with third ring image

Andy Reid's place in Canton is secure, even if it isn't official.

The Chiefs head coach has taken two different franchises to the Super Bowl, and he has just three seasons out of 25 total with a losing record. He's also a two-time Super Bowl champion with Kansas City.

Last year, Reid's second Super Bowl victory as head coach of the Chiefs placed him among the inner circle of Hall of Fame coaches.

His third ring —  earned after a 25-22 Chiefs victory over the 49ers — moved him even closer to the center.

Just 35 coaches in NFL history have a Super Bowl ring. Overall, there have been 524 head coaches in the history of the NFL, so the Super Bowl club is an exclusive group. And Reid is well ahead of the pack.

Here's what you need to know about Reid after his third Super Bowl win in the last five seasons.

Most Super Bowl wins by a coach

Reid was already one of 14 head coaches to have won multiple Super Bowls. His third win moves him into an even more exclusive company occupied by just four of his peers.

Bill Belichick won six with the Patriots, Chuck Noll won four with the Steelers, Bill Walsh won three with the 49ers and Joe Gibbs won three with Washington. All of them, save Belichick who was active as a head coach in 2023, are in the Hall of Fame. It's safe to say he'll be in Canton as soon as he is eligible.

Those coaching wins account for 63.8% of all Super Bowl victories. That's a hefty percentage for just 14 coaches.

Among coaches with multiple Super Bowl rings, only Tom Coughlin, Mike Shanahan, George Seifert, Belichick and Reid are outside the Hall of Fame. Given how limited the process can be for allowing coaches into the Hall of Fame, it can often take some time for coaches to reach Canton.

Most championship wins by a coach

The first Super Bowl was held after the 1966 season. Several other coaches have multiple NFL championships, or at least one championship and one Super Bowl victory.

Two coaches, Hank Stram and Lou Saban, recorded championships in the AFL before it merged with the NFL. Reid is one of only 26 coaches with multiple championships. Should the Chiefs win on Sunday, Reid will be one of only 11 with three.

Most conference championships by a coach

The Chiefs head coach earned his fifth conference championship this season when he guided the Chiefs past the Ravens. And with a fifth Super Bowl appearance, he has joined an exclusive club of coaches who have at least five conference titles.

Reid became the fourth head coach in NFL history to win five conference championships, joining a list composed of two Hall of Famers and Belichick.

Most playoff wins by a coach

Reid's victory against the 49ers in the Super Bowl moved Reid five wins behind Belichick on the all-time playoff wins list. Belichick has 31 playoff wins in his coaching career.

Eighteen NFL coaches have recorded double-digit playoff win totals.

The gap between Reid and the closest active coaches is 14 wins, with John Harbaugh sitting at 12. If Harbaugh coached a team to an appearance in the wild-card round of the playoffs and was guaranteed to win the Super Bowl (four total playoff wins), it would still take him over three straight years of winning the Super Bowl then another two wins to pass Reid.

Reid also holds the distinction of being the only head coach with at least 10 playoff wins with multiple franchises. He won 10 playoff games as head coach of the Eagles and has won 16 with the Chiefs.
