Lions vs. Ravens final score, result: David Montgomery runs wild as Detroit downs Baltimore image

JUMP TO:

The Detroit Lions picked up a valuable "Monday Night Football" win, collecting more than 200 yards in run offense en route to a 38-30 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Lions (2-1) gave the Ravens (1-2) everything it could handle on the ground. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery shined, each tallying two rushing scores apiece to power Detroit's offense.

They weren't the only ones to show out beneath the gleaming "Monday Night Football" lights. The Lions brought Lamar Jackson to the canvas on seven different occasions. It's something of a minor miracle to keep Jackson under wraps. To do so seven times represented a major win for the Kelvin Sheppard-led defense.

The Sporting News tracked live updates from Monday night's game between Detroit and Baltimore. Below are highlights, analysis and more from a captivating contest between NFL heavyweights.

Lions vs Ravens live updates, highlights from 'Monday Night Football'

(All times Eastern)

End of fourth quarter: Lions 38, Ravens 30

11:20 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! The Ravens tack on a consolation score via yet another Andrews score. That won't be enough to get them a victory, however.

Lions 38, Ravens 30

11:10 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! The Lions put the game away with yet another Montgomery score! He's up to 151 yards on the day! What a display by the veteran tailback!

Lions 38, Ravens 24

10:55 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! The Ravens defense holds on, taking advantage of a face mask penalty to keep Baltimore within one score of its adversary.

Lions 31, Ravens 24

10:50 p.m.: FUMBLE! One play into Baltimore's drive, it gives the ball right back to the Lions! Henry surrendered yet another fumble — his third in as many games — after absorbing a hit from Aidan Hutchinson. Not only did the Lions regain possession of the prize. But they did so deep in Ravens territory. Uh oh.

10:45 p.m.: The Ravens make a big stop to give Jackson and the offense a chance to take over! Still plenty of time left for Baltimore to work with.

10:40 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! The Ravens' offense burst deep into Detroit's territory and looked poised to score. But a pair of sacks meant Baltimore had to settle for a field goal. John Harbaugh's side cuts its deficit to four.

Lions 28, Ravens 24

10:29 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! The Lions take the lead! And they have new offensive coordinator John Morton to thank! Goff handed the ball off to St. Brown, who subsequently slipped the ball to Gibbs. The Georgia Tech alum found plenty of space, prancing to the end zone to take the lead.

Lions 28, Ravens 21

End of third quarter: Ravens 21, Lions 21

10:25 p.m.: Montgomery bursts through the hole for another lengthy run! The Lions RB took advantage of some more lackluster Ravens defending to bring Detroit to the shadow of the goal line.

10:16 p.m.: The Lions defense firms up, limiting the Baltimore offense's shimmer. They'll get a chance to regain the lead soon — although they'll have to travel the length of the field to do so.

10:10 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! The Lions stormed back with a vengeance, with Jared Goff delivering a dart of his own to Amon-Ra St. Brown to even the score again. This one is a barnburner!

Ravens 21, Lions 21

10:00 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Hello Mark Andrews! Rumors of the veteran tight end's demise might have been greatly exaggerated. Tremendous throw and catch from Jackson and Andrews, who rekindle their relationship in the end zone once more. Ravens take the lead!

Ravens 21, Lions 14

9:55 p.m.: The Ravens will get the ball back to start the second half. Let's see if Jackson and the crew can open up an advantage.

End of second quarter: Lions 14, Ravens 14

9:40 p.m.: The Lions trotted out Jake Bates for a 67-yard field goal, which would represent a new NFL record. His effort had the leg, but it curled wide.

9:30 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Jackson lights the fire, bringing Baltimore down the field before finding Rashod Bateman to knot the game at 14.

Lions 14, Ravens 14

9:25 p.m.: Baltimore's defense got an another all-important stop, stifling Detroit's attack to set up another offensive drive.

9:15 p.m.: TURNOVER ON DOWNS! After collecting a gaggle of yards via a lengthy Rasheen Ali return, the Ravens brought themselves to the goal line. However, three straight runs came up short. Baltimore understandably went for it on fourth down. But their attempt was scorned — Jackson attempted to roll out on the RPO, only to be met by a swarm of Detroit defenders who batted the ball away. He jumped on his fumble to prevent a potential Lions score. But the Ravens certainly left points on the board.

9:03 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! The Lions deliver a crunching blow to kick off the second quarter, stringing together an 18-play, 98-yard drive. Detroit finished off the possession in style, racing into the end zone courtesy of a David Montgomery run from short-range.

Lions 14, Ravens 7

End of first quarter: Lions 7, Ravens 7

8:43 p.m.: The Lions get a stop of their own! The ball is headed back to the Lions.

8:38 p.m.: The Ravens get a much-needed stop, coaxing a three-and-out from Detroit's attack. Here comes Jackson, Henry and Co.

8:32 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! What's better than one running back touchdown? Two! Derrick Henry turned on the jets, bursting 28 yards to the end zone to level the score at seven apiece. That's a strong response by Baltimore, who looked fluid and fervent in its opening offensive possession.

Lions 7, Ravens 7

8:23 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Jahmyr Gibbs prances into the end zone, capping an 11-play, 67-yard drive that saw Detroit displace Baltimore's defense with relative ease.

Lions 7, Ravens 0

8:20 p.m.: The Ravens' defense has looked lackluster during the opening drive, employing a soft zone to little success thus far. The Lions are deep in the red zone five minutes into the game.

8:15 p.m.: And we're off! Detroit and Baltimore will clash beneath the M&T Bank Stadium lights. We're all better for it.

8:00 p.m.: Here's a look at the Ravens' and Lions' inactive list ahead of tonight's duel.

7:45 p.m.: MVP runner-up Lamar Jackson has enjoyed another strong start to the season. He looks composed as ever ahead of tonight's contest.

7:30 p.m.: Jason Kelce is already getting in the mood for tonight's contest, lending his musical chops to the Ravens' renowned marching band. Perhaps a career change could be on the cards in the coming few years...
