Eagles playoff picture: How win over Bills impacts Philadelphia's chances at No. 1 seed in NFC image

One year removed from their Super Bowl triumph, the Eagles find themselves near the top of the NFC.

The season hasn't been nearly as wondrous as last year. Philadelphia has been felled by bouts of inconsistency at different points, with quarterback Jalen Hurts going through a middling stretch halfway through the year as losses piled up.

Still, Nick Sirianni's bunch remains in the mix, taking advantage of a weak division to rack up wins. Given its championship pedigree, Philly remains a dangerous threat in the postseason -- even if Hurts didn't look the part throughout the year.

There was no better evidence of the Eagles' might than their 13-12 win over the Bills on Sunday. Their attack was quiet, as it has been throughout the year. But that harrowing defense flexed its strength when it needed to. Performances like that translate well to winter football. Sirianni's team knows that better than most.

Here's a look at Philadelphia's playoff picture following its win on Sunday.

With the Seahawks' win over the Panthers, the Eagles are officially unable to capture the NFC's No. 1 seed. They can only finish with 12 wins on the season, one short of Seattle's current mark. After the 49ers' win over the Bears Sunday night, San Francisco can leapfrog Philadelphia for first-place in the NFC standings with a win over Seattle on Saturday.

The Eagles aren't quite fixed to the No. 3 seed. Philadelphia holds the tiebreaker advantage over San Francisco by way of record in common games.

However, Chicago holds the head-to-head advantage courtesy of its win over Philadelphia.

The Eagles' win did little to change its place atop the NFC East leaderboard. Philadelphia had already outgunned its divisional foes, laying siege to the NFC East en route to a third divisional title in five years.
