Davante Adams injury update: Latest news on Rams WR after leaving matchup vs. Lions with hamstring injury image

The Los Angeles Rams' championship aspirations have been fueled all season by the exceptional play of their star acquisition, wide receiver Davante Adams, who leads the entire NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns.

But in a pivotal matchup against the Detroit Lions in Week 15, the Rams faithful held their collective breath when Adams abruptly pulled up short while running a route in the fourth quarter, clutching his hamstring. The visible injury scare immediately cast a shadow over what was shaping up to be a critical Rams victory.

Though he eventually walked off under his own power, the sight of their top weapon -- who has been managing the same nagging injury for weeks -- stopping mid-play was a worrying signal.

Here's the latest on Adams' status.

Davante Adams injury update

Adams is considered week-to-week with a hamstring injury, per Ian Rapoport. However, with the Rams on a short week ahead of a Thursday night Week 16 matchup, Adams' injury will "almost certainly knock him out" for that game. Additionally, his hamstring injury was not new, but rather an aggravation of his previous nagging hamstring issue.

Adams went to the locker room after suffering the apparent hamstring injury against the Lions.

While the wide receiver was able to walk off the field, he was in noticeable pain. Adams has been managing a hamstring injury over the past few weeks, but it has not caused him to miss action.

If Adams misses time, it would include the biggest game of the season so far, where the Rams travel north to face the Seahawks on "Thursday Night Football" in Week 16.

What happened to Davante Adams?

In the fourth quarter against the Lions, Adams looked to have tweaked his hamstring in the middle of play.

Adams stayed down and was immediately checked on by trainers. He was able to walk off the field on his own power.

This is a scare not only for Sunday's game, but the home stretch for Los Angeles. The Rams are currently tied with the Seattle Seahawks -- who they play in Seattle on Thursday night -- in a race for the NFC West title and other NFC contenders when it comes to playoff positioning.

Adams appears unlikely to play in Week 16, although he seems to have avoided a long-term injury.
