Parity struck the NFL in Week 5. More underdogs won than favorites, both remaining undefeated teams fell, and two of the three winless teams picked up their first victories.
That leaves the New York Jets.
After the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans each notched their first wins, the Jets sit alone as the league’s only winless team — a familiar position for a franchise enduring the longest playoff drought in American professional sports.
The Jets weren’t expected to contend in Aaron Glenn’s first season as head coach, but few predicted they’d rank among the league’s worst despite a potent running game and a defense many thought would rebound from a tough 2024. While the rushing attack has largely met expectations, defensive struggles and persistent penalties have kept New York from breaking through.
When might the Jets finally get their first win of the season? Here’s a look at their path forward.

When will the Jets win?
Fortunately for the Jets, the schedule softens after their London matchup against the red-hot Denver Broncos.
New York faces back-to-back sub-.500 teams before its Week 9 bye and another after the break, with two of those games at home.
The Jets will return from London to host the Carolina Panthers, who have been inconsistent this season. Carolina has endured ugly first halves, including a rough outing against the Arizona Cardinals and a lopsided loss to the New England Patriots, but its offense has shown sparks at times.
Next, the Jets travel to Cincinnati to face a Bengals team without Joe Burrow, struggling to find any traction without their star quarterback. Former Jets QB Joe Flacco is taking over for Jake Browning, which could help, but Cincinnati’s issues appear to run deep.
After the bye, New York hosts the Cleveland Browns in Week 10. Cleveland turned to rookie Dillon Gabriel after benching Flacco and was competitive in Gabriel’s first start. With only one win, the Browns could be a soft landing spot for the Jets.
Of course, Jets fans know that one win is better than none — which is the current reality. An easier stretch doesn’t guarantee success, but the chances of finally picking up that elusive first victory are far higher than if the Jets faced teams like the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs in a three-game span.
If the Jets can’t secure a win in these matchups after London, it may be fair to wonder what it would take for New York to finally get on the board.

The Jets will return from London with two more games until their Week 9 bye.
Once the Jets face the Browns, the schedule starts to get more difficult. They have back-to-back road games against the rising Patriots and Baltimore Ravens, who figure to have Lamar Jackson healthy by that point, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have suddenly become an intimidating team on the back end of their schedule.
Of course, the Jets would need everything to fall into place for the wins and losses to matter much beyond the draft order at that point. Fans might have their attention turned to the No. 1 pick in December, but there is no doubt Glenn would like to stack some wins and build momentum for what he hopes will be a better second season in East Rutherford.
