How long is Jaxson Dart out? Concussion timeline, return date, latest updates on Giants QB image

Jaxson Dart has been a revelation for the New York Giants, who appear to have found their franchise quarterback.

However, Dart has played a little recklessly this year, and it came back to bite him on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Dart suffered a concussion in the second half of the Giants' loss in Chicago, which forced him to miss the rest of the game while the Bears produced a comeback win.

Dart appeared to suffer a concussion on a fumble in the third quarter, but he didn't immediately exit the game. Still, Giants head coach said he pulled Dart when the quarterback seemed a little groggy on his next few plays after the fumble.

With Dart now in concussion protocol, New York may be without its starting quarterback for a few weeks. Here's the latest on Dart's status.

How long is Jaxson Dart out?

With Dart in concussion protocol, it is unlikely he will play on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Typically, players who enter concussion protocol during a game miss at least one game before they are cleared to return.

That makes it so Dart's more likely return date will be in Week 12 at the Detroit Lions, but it is possible Dart will miss the second-straight week as well. Therefore, Dart could also be out until Dec. 1, when the Giants play the New England Patriots on "Monday Night Football."

What happened to Jaxson Dart?

The Giants QB suffered a concussion in the second half of the Week 10 loss to the Bears. He exited in the third quarter and missed the rest of the game.

Dart's concussion on Sunday was the fourth time that he was evaluated for a concussion this year in nine total games, plus the preseason. The rookie quarterback has been running a lot in his first season and has taken a large number of hits as he's been getting acclimated to the league.

Dart overtook the starting quarterback job from Russell Wilson in Week 4, but Wilson has still been New York's backup since then. When Dart left the game against the Bears, Wilson relieved him and finished the game in Chicago.

Of course, the Giants also have veteran quarterback Jameis Winston on the roster as the third-string quarterback, so they can go to him if they've seen enough from Wilson. Winston has not appeared in a game this year bit he has played in 105 games since his rookie season in 2015.

The Giants have to face a gauntlet of playoff teams before going on their bye in Week 14, as they have games against the Packers, Lions and Patriots. There is no soft landing spot for Dart to return, but if his concussion evaluation follows that of most players, he will likely return within that three-game window.
