The Giants have to have liked what they saw out of quarterback Jaxson Dart, a 2025 first-round pick, on Saturday in their first preseason game. They hope their fourth-round running back will be joining him on the field next week.
Running back Cam Skattebo missed New York's preseason opener with a hamstring injury. The Arizona State product has not practiced at full speed since last Friday.
Skattebo has reportedly been dealing with the hamstring issue for a couple of weeks now, as he missed two days of practice prior to last Friday, only to return and be forced out halfway through the workout. He was expected to be a factor in the backfield this season behind No. 1 option, Tyrone Tracy, but his role could be diminished if he's unable to play during the preseason.

Cam Skattebo injury update
Skattebo sustained a hamstring injury last week and did not play in the Giants' preseason opener on Saturday against the Bills. It is unclear whether he will play against the Jets next week.
The Giants seem to be taking a cautious approach with the fourth-round draft pick, who rushed for 1711 yards last year at Arizona State to lead the Big 12. Giants general manager Joe Schoen said the team is pleased with his progress in the offseason and will not be rushing him back.
"[Skattebo] was doing a good job when he was out there early on," Schoen said earlier this week. "He's the type of guy you have to protect from himself."

Giants RB depth chart
No. | Player |
1 | Tyrone Tracy |
2 | Devin Singletary |
3 | Cam Skattebo |
4 | Eric Gray |
Skattebo's injury has not affected New York's running back depth chart much, but the setback certainly doesn't help his chances of getting a bigger Week 1 role. Tracy, who rushed for 839 yards and 4.4 yards per carry as a rookie, was expected to be the starter heading into training camp and has gotten most of the first-team reps. Veteran Devin Singletary is next in line at the moment.
Skattebo had been getting some first-team reps in camp and looked like he could play a complementary role in the Giants' backfield. He's a bruising runner who averaged 4.09 yards after contact last season, which ranked top 10 in the FBS. He's also an adept receiver out of the backfield, catching 45 passes for 605 yards last year, giving him plenty of appeal in both real-life and fantasy if he gets a chance.
Eric Gray is the fourth option on the depth chart, behind Skattebo.
