His two eldest brothers, Luke Maye and Beau Maye, both played basketball at the University of North Carolina, the same school where Drake played quarterback. Luke is particularly famous in UNC history for hitting a game-winning shot against Kentucky in the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, a moment that propelled the Tar Heels toward their national championship win that year.

Meanwhile, their brother Cole Maye chose a different sport and school, pitching for the University of Florida baseball team. Remarkably, Cole also won an NCAA national championship in 2017, leading to the rare distinction of two brothers from the same family winning national titles in different major sports in the same year.

Who is the oldest Maye brother?

The oldest of the Maye siblings is Luke Maye, who was born on March 7, 1997.

Luke established himself as a fan favorite and collegiate star while playing forward for the North Carolina men's basketball team from 2015 to 2019. His most memorable moment came during the 2017 NCAA Tournament, when his game-winning jump shot against Kentucky in the Elite Eight instantly became a piece of UNC basketball lore and helped propel the team toward their national championship victory that season.

Luke’s age difference with his youngest brother, Drake, who was born on August 30, 2002, is approximately five and a half years. Luke's career peaked as a junior in the 2017-2018 season, where he earned First-team All-ACC honors, averaging a double-double with 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Luke Maye

Luke Maye is a legendary figure in North Carolina basketball history. He played forward for the Tar Heels from 2015 to 2019, where his career was highlighted by one of the most famous shots in school history — a game-winning jumper against Kentucky in the 2017 Elite Eight that sent UNC to the Final Four and an eventual national championship.

Luke built on that success to become a First-team All-ACC player in 2018, averaging a double-double, and he now continues his professional basketball career overseas.

Cole Maye

Cole opted for the baseball diamond at the University of Florida, where he pitched for the Gators. Cole was a left-handed pitcher who was also part of a national championship-winning team, helping Florida capture the 2017 College World Series. 

He played sparingly as a true freshman  in 2017, appearing in five games with zero starts and totaling 3.2 innings pitched with a 12.27 ERA.

Beau Maye

Beau Maye also joined the storied North Carolina basketball program, though his journey required significant perseverance. As a walk-on, he battled through a series of challenging knee surgeries to remain on the team and contribute to the program.

Since his collegiate playing days ended, Beau has turned his deep knowledge and passion for the game into coaching. He now leads the boys’ basketball program at Hough High School, continuing to shape the next generation of athletes.
