Will the Chiefs trade for Tyreek Hill? How Xavier Worthy injury impacts Kansas City's wide receiver plans image

It's only Week 1, but the Chiefs are already experiencing wide receiver issues.

Rashee Rice was already set to miss six games with a suspension before Xavier Worthy left Kansas City's season-opener vs. the Chargers with a shoulder injury. Those two players were expected to be the team's two primary wide receiver options this year, so their absences create a significant hole in the roster.

Therefore, the Chiefs may look to make a move if Worthy's injury proves to be serious, and former Kansas City wide receiver Tyreek Hill's name could come up. Hill has spent the past few seasons with the Dolphins, but the two sides might be ready for a split.

Here's a breakdown of how the Chiefs could look to replace Worthy.

Will the Chiefs trade for Tyreek Hill?

With Rashee Rice suspended and Xavier Worthy injured, the Chiefs might look for external options to try and add to their offense. The obvious name that comes to mind is Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who began his career in Kansas City before being traded to Miami.

Hill's status on the Dolphins was in question during the offseason, but he begins this season as a member of the team. The veteran wide receiver has one year left on his contract, and costs over $50 million against the cap for the Dolphins.

If Miami gets off to a slow start, Hill will likely become trade candidate as the team is unlikely to re-sign him. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Chiefs will be the ones to make the move, as they may assess their internal wide receiver depth before exploring other options.

The Chiefs wide receiver depth chart has already taken a hit with Rashee Rice's six-game suspension. Rice is considered Kansas City's best wide receiver, so the team needed to find a way to replace him with the rest of the roster.

Now with Worthy's injury, the Chiefs' wide receiver group gets even more shallow. Hollywood Brown becomes the team's likely top wide receiver, but his inconsistency could mean Kansas City takes a committee approach.

Besides Brown, Juju Smith-Schuster has been a reliable option for this team in the past, but he lacks the explosiveness to replace Worthy or Rice.

One name to watch is Tyquan Thornton, the former Patriots second-round pick who flashed in training camp. Thornton has the speed to stretch the field for the Chiefs, and he already made a big play in Week 1 to help ignite a scoring drive.

Rounding out the depth chart are a few younger options. Jason Brownlee made the team after a successful training camp, but he has limited experience in the NFL. Jalen Royals, on the other hand, was a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft, but missed the first game due to injury.

Finally, Nikko Remigio is Kansas City's primary kick returner and not considered much of an option on offense,
