Is Jordan Love playing this week? Latest news, updates on Packers QB's status for Week 17 Saturday game image

The Green Bay Packers received great news on Christmas, learning that they clinched a playoff berth with the Detroit Lions' upset loss.

Reaching the playoffs is good news in itself, but it comes at an especially important time for the Packers with the statuses of QBs Jordan Love and Malik Willis up in the air in the days leading up to Saturday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

With a playoff berth in hand, some of the pressure is off the Packers as they face potential key absences, though they remain in the race for an NFC North title with two games remaining.

Here's what you need to know about Love's status after he suffered a concussion in Week 15.

Is Jordan Love playing this week?

Love will not play on Saturday against the Ravens, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Willis is expected to get the start despite dealing with an injury of his own during the week.

Love practiced in a limited capacity three times in the week leading up to the matchup with Baltimore, clearing one important step in the concussion protocol, but his status for Saturday's game remained unclear until Friday's news. The Packers initially listed Love as questionable on Thursday.

Willis, meanwhile, was also listed as questionable with a shoulder injury and an illness. Willis practiced in a limited capacity Thursday after missing Wednesday with the illness, and he is set to make his first start since Week 4 of the 2024 season.

The Ravens are not expected to have Lamar Jackson available, as Jackson is listed as doubtful with a back injury. If Jackson can't suit up, Tyler Huntley would get the start.

What happened to Jordan Love?

Love was diagnosed with a concussion after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from Bears DT Austin Booker in the first half of the Packers' Week 15 game.

The hit knocked Love backward and left him visibly shaken up, but he was able to walk off the field himself after being tended to by trainers for a handful of minutes. Willis replaced Love in what would be a heartbreaking overtime loss that prevented Green Bay from taking over first place in the NFC North.

Packers QB depth chart

RankQB
1Jordan Love
2Malik Willis
3Clayton Tune

Love is the clear-cut franchise quarterback in Green Bay, even if he still has room for growth, and the Packers are totally comfortable with Willis as their backup after his brief but impressive stint in place of Love early in 2024 and a solid showing against the Bears in Week 15.

With Love out, Willis is set to be backed up by Clayton Tune. Tune remains on the Packers' practice squad but can expect to be elevated to serve as Green Bay's No. 2 quarterback on Saturday.

A fifth-round pick out of Houston in 2023, Tune spent his first two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and made one start before being cut loose at the end of training camp this year. Tune has been on Green Bay's practice squad since joining the organization in late August.
