Why is Post Malone a Cowboys fan? Explaining how music star grew up rooting for Dallas' football team image

TL;DR

  • Post Malone is a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, despite not being born in Texas.
  • His father worked for the Cowboys, leading to their family's relocation to the Dallas area.
  • Post Malone frequently supports the team, wearing their gear and appearing at games.
  • He promised Michael Irvin a forehead tattoo if the Cowboys win the Super Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys’ 1990s dynasty created a generation of new fans across America, but don’t consider Post Malone a product of that popularity surge.

The musician wasn’t even a year old when the Cowboys last won a championship, and he wasn’t born in Texas.

It appears, however, that Post Malone possesses a significant justification for his allegiance to the Cowboys, and he consistently champions Dallas through the team's fluctuating fortunes experienced throughout the last twenty years.

Here’s what you need to know about Post Malone’s connection to the Cowboys.

Is Post Malone a Cowboys fan?

Post Malone calls himself a lifelong Cowboys fan and frequently sports Dallas gear.

It was simple for Post Malone to support the Cowboys; he and his relatives relocated to the Dallas outskirts when he was nine, following his father's employment with the team. Despite his birth in another region, he rapidly developed into a devoted fan of the Cowboys.

Before a 2024 Cowboys game against the New York Giants, Post Malone was spotted on the sideline wearing a cowboy hat and getting kicker Brandon Aubrey to autograph his jersey.

During his May performance at&T Stadium, Post Malone was spotted sporting an Aubrey jersey. He also offered official Cowboys-themed merchandise merchandise related to his tour's visit to the stadium.

Where is Post Malone from?

Post Malone, originally from Syracuse, New York, relocated to Texas at age nine when his father accepted a position with The Cowboys.

Grapevine, a city situated north and west of Dallas and north of Arlington (home to AT&T Stadium), was the residence of the five-time American Music Award recipient.

Post Malone attended Grapevine High School and continues to show love to his hometown, as he dropped a $1,000 tip at a sports bar in Grapevine when he stopped in during a Cowboys game in October.

In the Cowboys' announcement regarding the halftime show, Post Malone made it clear he considered himself a Texan. "I'm from Texas," he said. "I grew up a Cowboys fan and have been watching this halftime show for years."

Post Malone's father was a Cowboys' stadium employee.

Post Malone's father, Rich Post, was hired to manage the Cowboys' concessions in 2004.

Although reports about Post Malone's relatives suggest his father occupied that role for an extended period, the exact timing of his departure from the organization remains uncertain; Rich Post's LinkedIn profile shows he assisted with preparations for Super Bowl 46 at&T Stadium in 2011.

Despite his global fame as a musician, Post Malone carves out time to support his Cowboys and plans to entertain local fans, along with tens of millions of viewers, this Thanksgiving.

Post Malone Cowboys tattoo

Post Malone doesn't have a Cowboys tattoo, which might surprise some given he is known partly for his tattoos, but he promised franchise great Michael Irvin in 2022 that he would get Irvin's No. 88 tattooed on his forehead if Dallas wins the Super Bowl.

While it isn't clear whether that offer only applied to the 2022 season, which certainly did not end with a Cowboys championship, it's hard to imagine there is anything Post Malone wouldn't be willing to do to see his team win the Super Bowl for the first time since he became a fan.
