Jerry Jones says Cowboys missing playoffs would be huge 'disappointment' image

The Dallas Cowboys appear headed for another season of missing the playoffs.

With Sunday night's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Cowboys fall to 6-7-1 on the year and on the verge of elimination. Dallas has a very narrow path to making the playoffs, which essentially requires the Cowboys to win out and the Philadelphia Eagles to lose out.

As the Cowboys season is winding down, this would mark the second-straight season of Dallas failing to reach the postseason. In Dallas, though, that is an unacceptable idea, especially with Jerry Jones as the owner of the team.

After Sunday's game, Jones spoke with the media to give his thoughts on the Cowboys' spot in the playoff picture. Here's what he said.

Jerry Jones comments

Jones told the media that if the Cowboys miss the playoffs, he would consider it a disappointment. Although Dallas traded Micah Parsons before the season began, Jones still views this roster as playoff-caliber, so missing the playoffs would be the roster failing to reach expectations.

Brian Schottenheimer is in his first season as the Cowboys' head coach, so it's unlikely his job is on the line. However, in regards to defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Jones said the final three games will be part of his evaluation.

"With three games left," Jones said, "that will impact any adjustments that you make regarding coaching."

The Cowboys defense has been disappointing this season, as the unit entered Week 15 in the bottom five of many statistical categories.
