Shedeur Sanders endured a horror show of a performance in the Browns' preseason finale vs. the Rams.

Only time will tell if that will cost him a place on Cleveland's 53-man roster.

The Colorado product entered the matchup with heightened expectations. He authored up an impressive preseason outing in a Week 1 start, and despite being held out of the Browns' Week 2 clash with the Eagles after suffering an oblique injury, many of those pooled into the Huntington Bank Field concourses were hoping for a starring display from Sanders.

He bided his time on the bench, watching along as Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel led Cleveland's offense up and down the field, each throwing a TD pass and combining 200 passing yards. Sanders got his shot in the third quarter, but he proceeded to incur five sacks across five drives.

It wasn't immediately clear if Sanders — who completed 3-of-6 passes for 14 yards — was limited by his oblique injury, but his performance left a lot to be desired. Head coach Kevin Stefanski seemed to agree, pulling Sanders from the contest with just two minutes left.

Tyler Huntley took the reins of Cleveland's offense in his stead. He, too, led the Browns down the field, setting up a game-winning field goal at the buzzer.

Stefanski confirmed that Sanders wasn't removed for health reasons. Sanders told reporters he was readying to return in the game when he got the news.

"I didn't know I was out," Sanders said. "I was on the bike, I was powering up. I was powering up for that two-minute drive because that's the situation every quarterback dreams for. That's many situations I've been in before."

Sanders watched on from the sidelines, sporting a towel over his head. It was a sour end to what once looked like a promising preseason for the fifth-round pick. Now, he waits, hoping he showed enough to preserve his place on the roster.

The Sporting News tracked Sanders' performance vs. Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon. Below are the highlights, lowlights, and more from a lackluster Sanders showing at Huntington Bank Field.

Browns vs. Rams live updates, highlights from Week 3 preseason game

(All times Eastern)

4:10 p.m.: Huntley leads the Browns down the field for the game-winning field goal! Cleveland wins and completes its unbeaten regular season!

3:57 p.m.: Scratch that. Tyler Huntley will take his place under center to lead the two-minute drill. That doesn't seem a great sign for his future prospects.

3:55 p.m.: The Rams find the end zone to take the lead! Sanders will have two minutes to deliver a score — and turn this ugly showing on its head.

3:46 p.m.: Sanders wiggled his way out of a sixth sack to deliver a pass to Trayveon Williams. The pass was thrown slightly behind the tailback. But it was still close enough to for Williams to grab. Unfortunately for Sanders and Co., it slipped from his hands, resigning the Browns to yet another premature punt.

3:42 p.m.: Sanders goes down again! That's his fifth sack of the day. Wretched showing thus far for the fifth-rounder.

3:30 p.m.: Sanders' struggles continue to manifest. He tacked on two more sacks to his tally,  He's up to four on the day. By comparison, he only has two successful completions.

End of third quarter: Browns 16, Rams 10

3:20 p.m.: The lumps continue to accrue for Sanders, whose third drive might have been his worst of the bunch. On third down, Sanders nearly handed the ball to Los Angeles, fumbling after being caught in Jamil Muhammad's embrace.

3:05 p.m.: Sanders hasn't looked particularly good thus far. But he hasn't been helped by his offensive linemen, either. Los Angeles has flooded Sanders' pocket with pressure.

3:00 p.m.: Another drive, another three-and-out. Sanders has struggled thus far, missing his target on two of his first three pass attempts. Not the greatest showing thus far for the Colorado product.

2:50 p.m.: Sanders' first drive came to a close after just three plays. He completed a six-yard pass on his first play, but was soon swept up in a sack on third down.

2:40 p.m.: Sanders gets the nod to start the third quarter. He'll look to outgun Flacco and Gabriel across the final two frames.

2:30 p.m.: Gabriel found his form in the final drive of the first half, looking composed and precise as he fired passes towards an assortment of receivers. He authored an 11-play trot the end zone in the half's final 1:38, accounting for each of the 86 yards gained. Gabriel finished the drive in style, finding Gage Larvadain with a three-yard dart to push the Browns' advantage to nine.

2:15 p.m.: It's been a fairly unremarkable showing thus far for Gabriel, who has completed just 3-of-8 passes for 43 yards. He will get a chance to lead Cleveland's two-minute drill before halftime commences.

1:45 p.m.: The final line for Flacco on Saturday afternoon: 9-of-10 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown. Solid showing for the 40-year old, who did little to jeopardize his place atop Cleveland's QB depth chart. Next up: Gabriel.

1:30 p.m.: Flacco has enjoyed a strong start to today's game. After an opening drive three-and-out, Flacco has returned with aplomb, completing five of his first six passes for 36 yards and a score. He looks the part of a starter so far.

1:00 p.m.: Today's game is underway! Sanders will watch along in the game's earliest moments as Flacco and Gabriel take the field.

12:35 p.m.: Sanders is on the field for warmups. He looks relaxed ahead of his final preseason fixture. Perhaps that's a good sign for his performance in today's game?

12:15 p.m.: Sanders will bide his time on the bench on Saturday afternoon. He is currently slotted at third-string in Cleveland's QB depth chart behind starter Joe Flacco and backup Dillon Gabriel. Flacco will take the reins of the first team, while Gabriel will also see minutes. Head coach Kevin Stefanski assured that Sanders will see the field at some point — likely in the second half.

12:05 p.m.: Sanders looks ready for action ahead of today's game. Here's a look at him walking towards the locker room. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.
