Georgia’s first-ever home meeting against Texas later Saturday could do more than add a new chapter to Bulldogs football history. It could also determine who secures a spot in the SEC Championship Game next month in Atlanta.

SEC championship berth on the line in Saturday action.

With a Georgia win over the No. 7 Longhorns and a Texas A&M loss at home, the No. 2 Bulldogs would officially clinch their return to the conference title game. However, the playoff picture could take a different turn if either the Longhorns or Aggies prevail.

Should Texas win in Athens while Texas A&M holds serve in College Station—or if the inverse happens—the Alabama Crimson Tide would earn the SEC Championship Game berth instead.

According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, Georgia enters the matchup with a 59.9 percent win probability, while Texas sits at 40.1 percent. The stakes, both for the SEC race and the College Football Playoff outlook, couldn’t be higher as kickoff approaches between two of the league’s newest power brokers.
