A new champion will emerge this Sunday as the Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Hornets clash in the NBA Summer League final, capping off a thrilling week of standout showings and nail-biting matchups.
The Kings brought their five-day hot streak to a screeching halt in the semifinals, and did so in style. They dismantled a veteran-heavy Raptors squad 98-88 with confidence, led by Isaac Jones, the former Washington State standout, who simply couldn’t miss. But what really sets this Kings team apart is their collective effort on the glass.
Four of the five starters grabbed at least five rebounds, and three bench players chipped in with three boards each. That kind of commitment across the lineup is championship DNA.
The Hornets absolutely earned their spot in the final, taking down a sharp and gritty Thunder team that had been impressive all tournament.
Jaylen Sims had the hot hand, torching the Thunder with 25 points on a silky 10-for-14 shooting night, including four triples for good measure. The Hornets' prized rookie Kon Knueppel also chipped in 17 points in just 21 minutes as Charlotte cruised to a 109-80 blowout, booking a championship date with Sacramento.
But Charlotte doesn’t have the same depth as Sacramento. They tend to lean heavily on a select few to do the heavy lifting, and that imbalance might just be their undoing when the pressure peaks.
