How long is Jalen Brunson out? Leg injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Knicks star image

The New York Knicks are considered one of the favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference in 2025-26, expectations that heavily weigh on star point guard Jalen Brunson.

Now in his fourth season with the Knicks, having averaged at least 24.0 points per game in each of the first three, Brunson has emerged as one of the best offensive creators in the NBA.

Recently, though, New York saw him step away from the floor with an injury. Brunson has been off to a hot start to 2025-26, averaging 28.0 points and 6.5 assists per game, but he could be sidelined for the Knicks moving forward.

What is Jalen Brunson's injury?

The details of Brunson's injury are not yet known.

He left the Knicks' game against the Orlando Magic on Nov. 13 with just a few minutes remaining in the matchup. With under two minutes left, Brunson, who had played 37 minutes, made a drive to the rim and took a hard foul on the way, then started grabbing at his right leg while on the ground.

While Brunson got up quickly and stayed in the game to shoot free throws, head coach Mike Brown then called a timeout for the guard to exit. He went to the locker room and did not return.

Brunson's official return timeline for his apparent injury is not yet known.

According to SNY's Ian Begley, Brunson was "seen outside of the locker room using crutches and in some kind of protective boot on his right ankle" after the loss to Orlando on Nov. 13. Head coach Mike Brown said he knew Brunson rolled the ankle, but didn't have any other details after the game.

“I think he turned his right ankle,” Brown said of Brunson’s status. “But that’s all I know.”

Should Brunson miss time, the Knicks would be turning to Mikal Bridges, Jordan Clarkson, Miles McBride, Josh Hart and Landry Shamet to lead its guard rotation.
