The Golden State Warriors offense revolves around Stephen Curry, at least when he's healthy.

Apparently, Jonathan Kuminga didn't always recognize that, leading to his surprising late-season benching.

The Ringer reported Wednesday in full detail about how Curry played a role in Kuminga's demotion.

"Despite his talent, Kuminga’s propensity to look for his shot at the expense of the flow of Golden State’s offense has irked the coaching staff," Logan Murdock wrote. "During a late-season game against the Blazers, team sources say Kerr was incensed after several instances in which Kuminga looked off Curry to create his own offense. Kuminga subsequently received DNPs in the Warriors’ regular-season finale against the Clippers and then again in their play-in matchup against the Grizzlies. By the start of the playoffs, many within the organization wondered whether Kuminga, who is eligible for an extension, had played his last game as a Warrior. "

Kuminga sat out multiple games in the playoffs, too, before Jimmy Butler's injury and then Curry's injury both pushed him into a larger role again.

He put up 30 points in Game 3 against the Timberwolves, but it wasn't enough and now the Warriors trail 3-1 with Curry set to miss Game 5, too.

Kuminga has proved himself as a capable bucket getter, but it's also fair for Kerr to be annoyed if Kuminga hasn't figured out how to do things in a team context.

With the playoff injuries, Kuminga has had more free reign to do what he feels he does best, which is score the ball.

But if the Warriors extend the series and Curry returns, Kuminga's role might again decrease dramatically.

Maybe there's a time when Kuminga will be a team's No. 1 option, but that time is not now.

And his Warriors future may remain in doubt unless he proves out of nowhere that he knows how to play collectively with his teammates, especially Curry.
