Draymond Green thought the Luka Doncic trade news was intended for the Warriors.

No, the Golden State legend didn't think Luka himself was coming to the Bay Area. But that night, he expected another deal might get done instead.

Green and the Warriors were at a charity event together, and owner Joe Lacob shared something with Green, which he told to Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday night: Lacob said the Warriors were close to a trade for Kevin Durant.

About 15 minutes later, Green said, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry yelled across the room for him: "Did you see the trade?"

Green was shocked that it had already happened.

Except Curry wasn't yelling about a KD deal. It was for the Luka trade.

The Warriors never did get Durant. Instead, they wound up with Jimmy Butler from Miami.

With Butler, the Warriors looked like one of the most dangerous teams in basketball, but postseason injuries first to Butler and then to Curry took away their bite and didn't let them show if they could potentially win a championship together.

KD's popularly rumored return never materialized, but for a few minutes, Green thought it was happening. Instead, the craziest trade in the history of the NBA was going down, and Green and the rest of the Warriors were together when it happened.
