The Dallas Mavericks need a point guard.
Well, at least for the 2025-26 season after Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in March.
The Mavs, with Anthony Davis leading the way and the No. 1 pick likely to turn into Duke's Cooper Flagg, are a playoff-level team. So they need a playoff level point guard.
New reporting from NBA insider Marc Stein reveals who the Mavs may target.
According to Stein, Dallas is looking into three guys:
- Jrue Holiday
- Lonzo Ball
- Chris Paul

They each come with their own complications.
Holiday has the biggest contract of the bunch, with still more than $100 million to be paid in his current deal with Boston.
Ball is the mid-tier option, both injury prone and less of a shooter but also due only $10 million more guaranteed, with a team option for the following season.
Paul is the old guy of the group, 40 years old but not showing any signs of retiring. He'd be the easiest acquisition as a free agent.
The Mavericks may look elsewhere, too, but any of these options would be good stopgaps while they wait for Irving. Kyrie probably will get back before the season is done, too, which adds another layer of intrigue to this whole process.
