Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect shortstop Konnor Griffin currently plays for the Double-A Altoona Curve. Griffin is only 19 years old, and he was the number one overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Griffin is rising quickly through the Pirates minor league system and hopes to get to the big leagues as soon as the 2026 MLB season. Over the last couple of games, Griffin has been hit by a pitch against the Richmond Flying Squirrels pitchers (San Francisco Giants Double-A Affiliate). Pirates' fans are not thrilled with Griffin being drilled over the last couple of games.

Pittsburgh Pirates Fans Show Frustration on Social Media After Top Prospect Konnor Griffin Gets Drilled

Griffin got hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third inning for the Curve on Wednesday night against the Flying Squirrels. Their top prospect getting drilled for the second straight night upset Pirates fans. The last thing Pittsburgh fans want to see is Griffin get hurt because of being hit by a pitch. Pirates' fans expressed their frustration about it on Twitter.

The Curve will continue this six-game series against the Flying Squirrels on Thursday night. Hopefully, Griffin will not be hit by a pitch for the third straight game for Altoona. He has played 13 games for the Curve in the 2025 minor league baseball season.

Overall, he has played in 114 games and has a .330 batting average with 19 home runs and 88 RBIs, along with 65 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .413. The 19-year-old is not projected to reach the MLB level until the 2027 season, but the Pirates fans are hoping that he doesn't continue to get pegged in the minor leagues.
