IPL hat-tricks: Full list of all times and how many have been taken in Indian Premier League after 2025 season image

The Indian Premier League ended yet another thrilling season of the IPL as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched their first-ever IPL title after 18-long years.

Picking up a hat-trick is considered to be one of the most difficult tasks in any form of cricket. And if you get three wickets in successive deliveries in the T20 format, it has the potential to change the course of the match.

Yuzvendra Chahal became the latest player to bag a hat-trick in the 2025 season as he picked up the wickets of Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad to restrict CSK from reaching the 200-run mark.

The Sporting News takes a look at the record of quick trebles in the IPL from 2008-2025.

How many hat-tricks have been taken in the IPL?

In the IPL, this feat has been achieved 23 times across 18 seasons by 19 different bowlers. Amit Mishra is the only bowler in the history of the league to achieve the feat thrice.

In the 2025 edition of the IPL, only one player was able to pick up a hat-trick as the tournament was heavily dominated by the batters, making life difficult for the bowlers.

Trent Boult came the closest to taking a hat-trick in 2024 as he sent Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir packing in two consecutive deliveries, but failed to dismiss Ishan Kishan, who took a single off the next ball.

Before that, the last hat-trick came in the 2023 edition of IPL, where Rashid Khan of the Gujarat Titans was the only one to take a hat-trick. Against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the Afghan bowler got the wickets of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur in the 17th over to derail Kolkata's run-chase.

Who took the first hat-trick in IPL?

The first-ever IPL hat-trick was achieved by Lakshmipathy Balaji for the Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural season of the tournament in 2008. He took three wickets in the last over of the match against Kings XI Punjab, which helped his team to win the match.

How many bowlers have taken multiple hat-tricks in the IPL?

Since then, many bowlers have etched their names in the history books of IPL by achieving this rare feat, but only Amit Mishra, Yuvraj Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal have been able to repeat their heroics in the tournament.

The leg-spinner has taken three hat-tricks, which is the most by any bowler in the IPL. He achieved this feat in the 2008, 2011, and 2013 seasons, playing for the Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively.

Whereas, Yuvraj took both the hat-tricks playing for KXIP in the 2009 edition of IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers.

Chahal took his first hat-trick playing for the Rajasthan Royals in 2022, while his latest one came for the Punjab Kings in the match against Chennai Super Kings in 2025.

Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper who is known more for his big hits, also has an IPL hat-trick to his name. In 2009, he dismissed Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh, and JP Duminy of the Mumbai Indians in three consecutive balls to achieve this feat.

In the 2023 IPL edition, there was only one hat-trick, which was taken by Rashid Khan against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the 17th over, he got Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur respectively to provide a jolt to KKR.
