Three jockeys have been suspended and three jockeys have been reprimanded by racing stewards for various incidents during the 2025 Melbourne Cup meet.

The first incident came in race two when Neil Farley 'used his whip 4 times more than permitted prior to the 100m' on his horse Pittsburgh Pirate, which saw him hit with a seven-race meeting suspension and a $400 fine.

"Further, Neil Farley was fined $400. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, excellent record, totality of whip strikes, that his mount placed 2nd and the Victorian Penalty Guidelines," the Stewards' Report said.

The second incident came in the Melbourne Cup when 2020 winning jockey Jye McNeil, who was riding Valiant King, was suspended for 18 race meetings for 'careless riding' which resulted in Presage Nocturne and Vauban 'racing unnecessarily tight for some distance'.

"In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, good record, that it was a Group 1 event, the Feature Race Penalty Guidelines and that the incident was in the mid-range," the Stewards' Report said.

Jockey John Allen was charged in two different races for 'careless riding', with the first incident in race eight on Kaleo, in which Allen made heavy contact with Katsumi Orochi, which resulted in a 10-race meeting suspension after it was categorised as a mid-range incident.

The second incident in race 10 was a similar incident where he tried to shift Windstorm out, which 'tightened the running of Cotehele, which was checked', and he was suspended for a further 8 race meetings, 18 in total. Allen pleaded guilty to both charges and will be able to return to riding on November 24.

The Stewards' Report also showed that Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jamie Melham was reprimanded for 'careless riding' for her ride on the winner Half Yours.

Joao Moreria and Daniel Stackhouse were also reprimanded for 'careless riding' for their rides in race eight on winner Burma Star and Tagline, respectively.
