Oscar Piastri watched his 14-point lead in the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship turn to a one-point deficit during the Mexico City Grand Prix.
The Aussie started from seventh on the grid and was able to battle his way up to fifth, but it wasn't enough to hold off Norris, who finished a long way clear in first after qualifying fastest.
That makes it four straight grands prix off the podium for Piastri, who now sits second in the championship by a single point.
As a result, Norris sits on 357 points in the race for the championship, while Max Verstappen, who finished third behind Charles Leclerc in Mexico, sits third on 321.
With four races to go in the season, there's still plenty of time for Piastri to reclaim the lead which he has held since the Saidi Arabian Grand Prix in April, although the momentum is undeniably with his teammate in papaya.
After starting on poll, Norris couldn't have wished for a smoother race, never threatened as he eventually crossed the line more than 30 seconds clear of Leclerc.
Behind Norris, drama was unfolding, with Lewis Hamilton hit with a 10-second penalty for gaining an advantage after leaving the track.
Amid the hustle and bustle, Piastri was briefly shuffled back to ninth from his starting position of seventh.
The 24-year-old Aussie had a running battle with Mercedes' George Russell for much of the race, before eventually getting the better of him in the closing laps, but he wasn't able to get by Oliver Bearman's Haas, who claimed a personal best result of fourth.
"There was a lot of fight there," Piastri said post-race.
"The whole race I was right behind someone and just struggling with the dirty air, so that was pretty difficult.
"When your teammate wins the race, finishing fifth is nothing that extravagant."
A virtual safety car in the final stages impacted Piastri's chances of overtaking Bearman, while Verstappen was also impeded in his efforts to run down Leclerc.
Up next, the championship heads to Sao Paulo for the Brazilian Grand Prix in a fortnight's time.
