Real Madrid are currently leading the La Liga points table following a decent start to the 2025/26 campaign across competitions.

Barring the humiliating 5-2 defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid in the Madrid Derby, Los Blancos have fared well under Xabi Alonso.

While Real Madrid are keen to compete for each and every trophy this season, they also have an eye for the future as the management are already making transfer plans for the next summer and are also handing out contract extensions to players who are invaluable to their project.

Academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia, who gained worldwide fame during the Club World Cup has signed a new contract with Real Madrid, keeping him at the club until 2030.

The Spanish forward had a €50m ($55m) buyout clause earlier which was replaced with a staggering €1 bn ($1.1bn) release clause in the new deal.

The 21-year-old was given an opportunity to shine at the Club World Cup, and he finished the tournament as highest goalscorer with four goals whilst also securing a place in the squad.

Following his exploits in the tournament last season in the United States, plenty of Premier League clubs were interested in Garcia and therefore Real Madrid were quick to tie him down to a long-term contract.

What reason did Garcia share in signing a new deal with Real Madrid?

Garcia earned Alonso's trust in training and therefore he was given an opportunity to shine at the Club World Cup, and he grabbed that with both hands.

His composure, movement, aerial ability, and work ethic has been lauded by his teammates and coaches at Santiago Bernabeu which forced the contract extension.

While the 21-year-old forward has a long way to go and lot to achieve, but people at the club have compared him with Real Madrid legend Raul mainly due to his gameplay.

"My only option has always been to stay at Real Madrid, for me it is a dream to be part of the first team. And for now, I'm very happy with the decision I made." Garcia told SER explaining his decision to sign a new deal.

"We are talking about the best club in the world, and the competition is going to be maximum, because here are always the best in the world. But for me, having been in the academy for so many years and being a Real Madrid fan since I was a child, it is a real dream to be part of the first team, and I don't regret anything."

However, the youngster is playing second fiddle to Kylian Mbappe, who almost starts each and every game for Real Madrid.

Therefore, many people believed that moving away from the Spanish capital would have helped him gain more minutes something which could be crucial in his develop at this stage of his career.

Despite such talks, Garcia has dismissed everything and is focused on giving his best in every opportunity that he gets.

"Right now, I only have this season with Real Madrid in mind, to take advantage of the opportunity and work hard to know how to make the most of every minute they give me. Whatever happens in the future... I am not going to waste time thinking about it. It's a dream to be able to be at Real Madrid," he acknowledged.

Garcia has featured in six matches for Real Madrid this season and he has only started once. Overall, he has played a total of 103 minutes until now and is yet to find the back of the net.
