Will Ousmane Dembele attend Ballon d'Or ceremony? Scheduling clash caused by Marseille vs. PSG postponement image

Ousmane Dembele is among the favourites for the 2025 men's Ballon d'Or after a superb season for the all-conquering Paris Saint-Germain in 2024/25.

If he is successful, the France international would be the first PSG player to lift a prize that is synonymous with their home city.

However, a year on from Real Madrid's players infamously shunning the gala at Theatre du Chatelet, some of PSG's leading stars will not be able to attend Monday night's ceremony in Paris.

Will Dembele be there? Allow the Sporting News to explain.

Will Ousmane Dembele attend Ballon d'Or ceremony?

Dembele is expected to be at the Ballon d'Or ceremony despite PSG having to play a Ligue 1 match against Marseille at the same time.

The forward is currently nursing a hamstring injury and is unavailable for the game at Stade Velodrome. As such, he will be able to attend the gala.

Team-mates Desire Doue and Joao Neves, who are also among the 30 nominees for the main award, are in a similar situation and are also free to attend.

However, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes and Fabian Ruiz will be on duty in Marseille and unable to go to the ceremony despite also being nominated.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was shortlisted for his performances in goal for PSG last season, but has since joined Manchester City. He played in the 1-1 Premier League draw against Arsenal on Sunday, meaning he is also theoretically free to go along to the ceremony.

Why is Marseille vs. PSG at the same time as the Ballon d'Or ceremony?

PSG were due to play domestic rivals Marseille in Le Classique on Sunday, but storms in the south of France forced a postponement.

The match will now take place at 8 p.m. local time on Monday at the Stade Velodrome. The Ballon d'Or ceremony starts in Paris an hour later at 9 p.m.
