Melbourne City return to AAMI Park knowing a win on Saturday night could all but seal second place on the ladder — and with it, a coveted spot in next season’s AFC Champions League Elite.

Sitting five points behind league leaders Auckland FC, Aurelio Vidmar’s side can secure a top-two finish if they beat Adelaide United and Western United drop points on Sunday. Even the Premiership isn’t entirely off the table, though they’d need bottom-placed Perth Glory to pull off an upset over Auckland to stay alive in the race.

City are unbeaten in their last two, having drawn 2-2 with Western Sydney Wanderers on April 19 after edging Brisbane Roar 3-2 the week before.

For Adelaide, this is it. Their final game of the regular season, and possibly the last of the year. A 1-1 draw against Brisbane on April 22 kept their hopes flickering, but with a -2 Goal Difference and Sydney FC two spots ahead at +12, Carl Veart’s side needs a win — and plenty of help.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this A–League clash, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and all the latest team news.
