Bayern Munich star Harry Kane hails Der Klassiker win as 'best game ever' image

Harry Kane has continued to be Bayern Munich's cornerstone in attack, having involved in 21 goal contributions this season across competitions.

He stepped up once again for the Bavarians in their 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the much-awaited Der Klassiker fixture in Bundesliga.

Kane set the tone for the hosts with a 22nd minute goal before Michael Olise scored the second goal in the 78th minute. Dortmund pulled a goal back through Julian Brandt in the 84th minute and despite their final push, Bayern held onto the lead.

The 32-year-old has been scoring goals consistently, but it is his work ethic that has turned heads this season. In the final minutes, when Bayern Munich were focused on seeing out the lead, Kane dropped deep, produced sliding tackles and blocks, something that was highly praised by everyone after the win.

He started in a deeper role in midfield with Nicolas Jackson leading the lines as Serge Gnabry was unavailable with abductor problems.

Following the game, Kane hailed his performance in the Der Klassiker as one of the best games in his career.

What did Harry Kane say about his Der Klassiker performance?

Kane has been flying this season with 18 goals in 11 games this season across competitions which includes 12 strikes from seven Bundesliga appearances.

However, more than his goals, it has been his transformation into a different player that has shocked many people.

Vincent Kompany has fielded him in a deeper role in absence of Jamal Musiala and the Englishman has done complete justice in an unnatural position. Also, his work ethic and pressing during defensive transitions has shown his eagerness to win and learn even at this stage of his career.

"Mainly because of how I adapted to the game in different ways," Kane told Sport1 explaining his 'best game' remark. "I enjoyed that role. It was a physically demanding game because I played almost box-to-box in midfield. But because of my physical attributes, it suits me well.

"Of course, I'm still there to score goals, but this time I dropped a bit deeper, both with and without the ball. It was also about defending, winning second balls, and using my long passing game. In the end, it was another good win, and I'm happy with the three points."

Bayern Munich stretched their winning streak to 11 games now this season and with the Bavarians facing Club Brugge in the mid-week Champions League fixture on October 22, they are expected to continue the perfect record.
