Brighton have made their stance clear over midfielder Carlos Baleba, with Sky Sports reporting that the Premier League club has no plans to entertain offers in January.
The 21-year-old, who joined from Lille in 2023 has emerged as one of Brighton’s most promising talents under Fabian Hurzeler and that rise already attracted Manchester United interest this summer.
Man United were among the clubs monitoring his rise last summer viewing him as a long-term successor in their evolving midfield setup.
However, Brighton’s refusal to negotiate ensured talks never advanced and that same resistance remains firm heading into the winter transfer window.
Casemiro’s contract is due to expire at the end of this campaign and reportedly there are doubts about an extension if he don't take wage cut.
Baleba was the player United had identified as central to their new era but Brighton’s firm valuation and unwillingness to negotiate have forced the club to delay their plans.

United, though, are expected to continue tracking Baleba’s progress closely as they weigh their next move in the market.

United looking to Crystal Palace for Baleba alternative
According to iPaper, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has now overtaken Baleba on United's shortlist ahead of the next window.
Manager Ruben Amorim is said to be drawn to Wharton’s direct passing style often choosing progressive options that drive play forward rather than sideways.
