United value the 22-year-old at around €45m ($38.8m), and while Napoli are not against paying that figure, they want flexibility on the timing. For now, it feels like a game of extra time that neither side wants to lose.
Personal terms are said to be settled, with Hojlund reluctantly open to moving back to Italy. His record at Old Trafford — 26 goals in 95 games — shows promise, but the numbers also highlight inconsistency.
After a decent debut season, his output dipped last year, fueling doubts about whether he fits Amorim’s system.
Napoli see an opportunity to sharpen their attack, while United hope to balance the books. But as long as the details remain unresolved, the deal hangs in limbo.
The League Cup clash with Grimsby Town could even serve as Hojlund’s farewell. Amorim, however, played it cool when asked: “All the players are available. Then we make the choice to try to get the best starting XI to win every game.”
