Liverpool’s summer transfer window turned plenty of heads across Europe.
The Reds spent close to £450 million, with record-breaking deals for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz leading the charge.
Some rivals questioned whether the Premier League champions were simply splashing cash, but manager Arne Slot has set the record straight.
Speaking to reporters, Slot dismissed suggestions of reckless spending and explained how Liverpool built their transfer budget.
“This is the model we use. We target a player and we want to have him. If the value is right for us, we are not afraid to act,” he said.
Slot added that the money comes from a mix of smart player sales and prize money from winning the league.

The model under the microscope
Fans may remember Liverpool breaking the bank for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson in previous years. Slot pointed out that this approach is nothing new.
“We did it when I was not there, the ownership did this with Virgil, with Alisson and now with Florian Wirtz as well. This is the model we use,” he explained.
Reports suggest Liverpool’s net spend this summer was over £230m, the club’s biggest outlay in modern times.
But Slot stressed that much of it was balanced by departures and long-term planning. “We have created our own budget by selling players, by winning the league,” he noted.
Another big splash coming?
Liverpool’s transfer train may not be slowing down. Reports (via DAVE OCKOP) claim Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is on their radar for January, with Real Madrid also interested. Any deal could top £60 million, showing that Liverpool’s so-called “model” may be tested again soon.
For now, Slot is satisfied that Liverpool have not only strengthened but future-proofed their squad. “We brought in so many players that are younger than the ones we sold,” he said. That balancing act could keep the Reds at the top of English football for years.
