Chelsea’s problems at centre-back early in the season have been well-documented.
Following the ACL injury to Levi Colwill before the season got underway, Enzo Maresca has been crying out for an experienced new central defender, but he has yet to get his wish.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi has established himself as one of the best central defenders in the league over the last couple of years and is all set to be available on the transfer market at the end of the season.
However, the English international has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea’s Premier League rivals, Liverpool, among other teams.
In such a situation, former Chelsea star Gus Poyet has advised his former side to hijack the Reds’ move for the Crystal Palace man.
Poyet even added that Chelsea would be crazy not to try and steal a march on their domestic rivals when it comes to making a move for the player.

Gus Poyet advises Chelsea to snap up Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace
Poyet told Sports Mole: “Guehi is a top centre back. He has now proven himself at the international level, playing superb for Crystal Palace and winning the FA Cup and Community Shield will only enhance his credentials.
“He is proving to be a model professional, well-spoken, respected by his teammates and well-educated as well.

“He is assured, he is becoming a leader in his own way, and absolutely, Chelsea would be mad not to look at taking him in their team. This is the type of player who elevates the team.”
While Poyet’s advice to his former side does make perfect sense, it remains to be seen if Chelsea bites the bullet and try to re-sign their former academy product.
