Former Premier League striker heaps praise on new Chelsea signing image

Monday marked the end of one of the craziest transfer windows of all time, with several teams splashing the cash to sign their preferred players.

However, Liverpool and Chelsea were the biggest talking points in the Premier League as they added some big names to their squad in an attempt to strengthen their respective teams.

From a Chelsea point of view, it was a hectic transfer window that saw numerous incomings and outgoings.

While some Chelsea supporters still feel hard done by their activity in the transfer window, Liverpool fans have little to complain about.

Arne Slot’s team left no stone unturned in their attempts to retain the Premier League title as they signed Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike for big money.

While Ekitike has hit the ground running at Anfield, Wirtz is taking some time to settle into his new surroundings, and therefore, former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has shared his verdict on the signing of Wirtz so far.

Troy Deeney hails Chelsea signing Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion

According to Troy Deeney, Chelsea attacker Joao Pedro has been the best summer signing in the Premier League to date.

He mentioned he’s been better than someone like German superstar Wirtz at Liverpool.

Deeney said via BBC Sport, “For me, he’s been the signing of the summer so far. A load of talk about Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz and all these different players, but Joao Pedro has hit the ground running at Chelsea.

“That team kind of feels like it’s his already; it feels like he’s going to be the one who’s going to be that special piece. Another goal, lost Liam Delap to injury, not a problem. He can play through the middle, move further up as the game goes on. No Cole Palmer, no problem, Joao Pedro is there to fill in as a 10. He’s just been excellent.”

While Pedro has undoubtedly made a better start to his career than Wirtz has at Liverpool, it would be silly to deem the German international a failure already.

Wirtz is one of the most gifted players of his generation, and it seems like it's only a matter of time before he finds his feet at Anfield.

Maybe it would make better sense to compare the two players at the end of their first seasons at their respective new clubs.
