Barcelona were on the receiving end of a 2-1 win against Real Sociedad in their seventh La Liga match of the season on September 28 at Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium.

Real Sociedad opened their scoring with Alvaro Odriozola's goal from an assist by Ander Barrenetxea in the 31st minute.

Barcelona, who were given two consecutive corners, found their equalizer with Jules Kounde's close-range header after Marcus Rashford provided an assist with a cross following the second corner in the 43rd minute.

After the first half ended in a 1-1 draw, Lamine Yamal came off the bench in the 58th minute and provided an assist just a minute later to Robert Lewandowski, who scored the winning goal for Barcelona with a header.

While the Catalan side walked away with a win, Barcelona's equalizer was deemed controversial, with the referee, Alejandro Hernandez, reportedly admitting after the match that he made a wrong call in awarding the corner that led to Kounde's goal.

Speaking after the match, Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro revealed that the referee 'accepted his mistake' while referring to the incident as a 'shame.'

What did Real Sociedad's goalkeeper say about Barcelona's equalizer?

While addressing reporters in the mixed zone, Remiro shared his take on the referee's decision about the disputed corner and said,

"I've also complained... We've spoken with Alejandro, with the referee, and he's accepted his mistake. It's more of a mistake for us to defend the corner poorly," as per GOAL.

"It's a shame, and VAR can't be used due to protocol, and I don't think it should be used either, because otherwise it would be outrageous. It's a fine line. Corner, and we were bad in that particular moment defending, and we need to correct it."

With this win over Sociedad, Barcelona overtook archrivals Real Madrid and currently stand on top of the La Liga table with 19 points after seven matches. The Blaugrana are now set to host Paris Saint-Germain in their second clash of the 2025/26 Champions League on October 1.
