Liverpool’s record-breaking £125m [$168m] signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United was one of the boldest moves of the summer transfer window.

The Swedish forward forced his way out of St James’s Park after refusing to train in the final days of negotiations and was determined to join the reigning Premier League champions.

Swedish Striker decision came after his prolific form at Newcastle where his movement and finishing made him one of England’s most feared strikers.

Since arriving at Anfield he’s made five appearances in all competitions [as of October 3], scoring in the EFL Cup and featuring twice in the Premier League and Champions League.

The deal, which rose to £130m [$175m] due to the cancellation of loyalty bonuses, is the most expensive transfer in British football history

Former Barcelona assistant once proposed Alexander Isak to Barcelona

Years before this record-breaking move, Barcelona had the chance to sign Isak when he was at Real Sociedad.

Henrik Larsson who was Ronald Koeman’s assistant at Barcelona between 2020 and 2021 revealed he had recommended Isak to the club.

“I spoke to Barcelona about him when I was there. They asked for a list of strikers, and I suggested Alexander Isak,” Larsson said via [Mundo Deportivo]

He also mentioned that Robert Lewandowski featured on that same list.

The former Sweden international who has scored 37 goals in 106 appearances for his country also praised Isak’s rise and stated that his move to Liverpool was a natural step for a player of his talent

"It's not up to me. He's been a talent since he was 15. Playing for Newcastle isn't easy, and he did fantastically well. Now he's going to Liverpool, and that's just the next step,"
