Hansi Flick admits errors in summer conversations with Barcelona star image

Barcelona's manager, Hansi Flick, has admitted to mistakes being made during summer talks with one of Barcelona's key players.

The tense situation with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen seems to have calmed down, with both the goalkeeper and the club discussing what happened over the summer.

Ter Stegen disagreed about his de-registration despite undergoing back surgery that would keep him out of the squad, with Barcelona eventually stripping Ter Stegen of his captaincy.

Flick has opened up about the summer drama, and the manager admitted that the situation could have been handled better by all parties involved.

What did Flick say about the Ter Stegen saga?

Speaking to SportBild (comments via Sport), Flick admitted to miscommunication with the goalkeeper.

He said, "If everything related to communication was always handled in the best way? I think there is a lot to improve, even on my part. For me, it is important that Marc and the club have reached out and sought genuine communication.

"It’s important that Marc returns now. He is a top goalkeeper and will receive all the support he needs from us so that he can play at his current level again."

Ter Stegen threatened to move away from the Catalan club, with multiple clubs vying for his signature.

The keeper is currently recovering from his surgery, with an expected return later in 2025 or early 2026.

Joan Garcia was registered to be Barcelona's number one, with Flick explaining his decision to sign Garcia.

Flick said, "With Joan Garcia, we have a very young and very talented goalkeeper, who is already at a very high level, and between all of us, we decided that he should be the future of Barcelona. So our approach was clear."
