Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, seeking a fresh start after falling out of Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.

The deal includes an option to buy for around £26m [$35m], a figure that could be decisive depending on the future of Robert Lewandowski, who turns 37 when his contract expires in 2026.

England International has already shown glimpses of quality in La Liga and delivered a breakthrough Champions League brace against Newcastle, proving he can still perform on the biggest stage.

Barcelona plans and transfer realities

Barcelona remain pleased with the England international’s early contributions but will not decide on a permanent transfer until the summer when his form and Lewandowski’s future will shape the club’s position.

Financial expert Stefan Borson explained the challenge to Football Insider, saying,

“The player is going to end up boxing Manchester United in I think it is clear United obviously want to sell the player I mean you just loaned him out.”

“Whatever he does whether he plays well or whether he is mediocre whether he is patchy you get to next summer and there is one bidder on the table and the player says he only wants to go to Barcelona well in that scenario they may well get him for £25m.”

Berson’s view shows United’s limited leverage with only one serious suitor on the horizon and the striker himself intent on staying at Barcelona to make the move permanent.
