Arsenal secured a 1-0 win against rivals Manchester United, after an early goal from Riccardo Calafiori.

Viktor Gyokeres started for Arsenal for his Premier League debut before being substituted around the hour mark for Kai Havertz.

Ex-Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has given his verdict on what he called a "poor" performance from the Swedish striker.

What did Pardew say about Gyokeres' debut?

Speaking to talkSPORT, Pardew was asked for his thoughts on Gyokeres' performance against United, and Pardew didn't hold back on what he thought of the Swede.

Pardew said, "Well, poor. I think you can't gloss it up any more than that. He looked not quite at it, whether he was nervous or or whatever… it didn't look what I was expecting because I'm a big fan of his."

"I was expecting a little bit more from him today."

Gyokeres didn't trouble United's goal in his debut, ultimately failing to record a shot in his 60 minutes on the field.

The Swedish striker only completed four passes, and Pardew found his performance underwhelming.

He continued, "And I think at 60 minutes to get subbed was you know, what I would have expected with this performance.

"Maybe he felt he should have had a little bit longer, but no, that wasn't the best. I'm surprised."

Arsenal's next match will come against Leeds United, where Gyokeres will be hoping to make more of an impact in the game.
